Mediation, From the Schools to the Streets, Making it Real 

Presented by the Youth and Mediation Committee of the Southern California Mediation Association

Presentations and training workshops on mediation and related topics to support the development of the 200+ youth mediators who will participate. Presentations include: 
 

Aikido, the Non-violent Martial Art: Empowering the Mediator  

Presented by the Emerald Chariot Foundation 
in association with the ACE Aikido Dojo 

An experiential workshop (open to conference attendees only) demonstrating mind/body alignment and peaceful resolution to conflict.  Aikido, a martial art applied with ethical purpose and intention, will be exhibited by instructors. Discussion will address its application to mediation, achieving cooperation and restoring harmony.

  
The Power of Story: Awakening the Heart! Mastering the Courageous and Compassionate Key to True Peacemaking, Mediation, & Community 
Presented by Jeffrey Courion 

A mediator sits among people who tell stories about their conflict. Deep wounds require deep listening that leads to true transformation and healing.  This workshop uses storytelling to connect youths to what is possible inside themselves and others.

  
Honoring Diversity and Unlearning Prejudice

Cooperative Games 
Presented by Jennifer Rees of Earthly Delights 

Cooperating is fun!  Cooperative, noncompetitive games teach creative problem solving, build teamwork, encourage diversity, and encourage appreciation of each person's unique contribution to the dynamic.

 
L.A. Works Volunteer Service Project - 6:45pm to 8:15pm   FREE 

Located at a shelter for homeless women and their children who have suffered domestic violence:  call LA Works for more info. 

Volunteers do arts and crafts with children at a domestic violence shelter. 

Provide cooperative activity, understanding, and support for children who are rebuilding trust.  Provide understanding, relief from stress, and cooperative child care support for women who are rebuilding their self-esteem and lives.
