The Center for Advancement of Nonviolence has many volunteer opportunities available for those who are interested in carrying the vision of a world at peace through the conscious choice to practice nonviolence in our daily lives.  We are working to create a world that honors the dignity and worth of every human being. 

We are a full time 501(c)3 non-profit corporation which depends on volunteers to fulfill our vision.  We need your help to accomplish our goals.  Please take a look at some of the opportunities below.  The board is updated regularly as new opportunities arise so if you don’t see anything right now please keep checking.

New Opportunities

TABLE VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR AGAPE!!

1st Service:  8:30 - 10:30
2nd Service: 1:30 - 1:30

We do not going to have any volunteers on the table for these 2 upcoming months. We need everyone available to step up and cover these two months while our regular volunteers are on vacation.

**DATABASE ADMINISTRATION & MAINTENANCE**

We need permanent administrators for the 1) Public and 2) Donor Databases

1) The Public Database would be maintained at the Center office. We use Access and ACT programs. About 1-2 hrs. week.

2) The Donor database can be maintained from home. It is on Access. About 1-2 hrs per week.

Ongoing Needs

  • Steering Committee Secretary, to take notes and e-mail them to committee members.
    Committee meets on the first and third Tuesdays of the month, 7pm, and you'd be right there where all the big-picture discussions take place...
  • GENERAL ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANCE  

  • Someone who is willing to be available for simple office request (faxing, phones, follow-up).   E-mail, Fax & phones a must.  Approximately 3 hours a week. 
  • This is a volunteer position. 

COMPUTER 
  • Someone who knows how to use Microsoft Access who is willing to spend 1-2 hours teaching a volunteer how to use it.  Available only on as needed basis.

  •   
  • People to do data entry into various databases (which are in Microsoft Access).

  •   
  • Graphic Designers needed who are familiar with Quark, Quark Express, Photoshop and Illustrator (less important, but helpful); Macintosh based, to assist in design, and production of flyers, posters and promotional material for special events.  Work to be done at your home.   Ongoing as needed - hours vary.
  • This is a volunteer position.  
     

VOLUNTEER COORDINATION 
  • People to be part of a phone bank for volunteer coordination.  This involves: 

  •     *calling the volunteer database every 3 months  
          to update information.  
        *calling new volunteers  in a timely manner and  
          inviting them to monthly volunteer orientations. 
        *contacting department heads once a month to  
          assess each department’s volunteer needs and  
          writing a job description for website volunteer  
          opportunities page and inclusion on   volunteer 
          handout. 
       *facilitating volunteer outreach  
      
         Can be done from your home or office on an ongoing  
         basis - time varies - 1 to 3 hours a week or less. 
     
    This is a volunteer position.
  FUNDRAISING 
  • Someone with experience on Excel, Word & the internet for data entry and organization of donation database.  Work to be done at home or office.  Ongoing basis - Approximately 3 hours a week.

  •   
  • Experienced creative writers, editors & proofreaders for press releases and program writing.  Work at home.  Attend bi-monthly meeting.  Ongoing basis - approximately 3-5 hours a week.

  •   
  • Experienced technical writers with some background in proposal and or grant writing.   Work at home.  Attend bi-monthly meeting.  Ongoing basis - approximately 3-5 hours a week.

  •   
  • Experienced internet researchers to find information for writers and to research foundations with grant monies.  Work at home.  Keep in touch via email, attendance at bi-monthly meetings.  Ongoing basis - approximately 3-5 hours a week.

  •   
  • People with excellent and personable communication skills to represent CAN to potential funders; cold call and follow up on leads to corporations and businesses to identify and develop possible donor relationships.  Must be very knowledgeable about CAN.  We will train you.  Work at home or out in field.  Must attend bi-monthly meetings.  Time varies - 3 hours a week minimum.

    River Jordan 
  
Marketing - These are all volunteer positions. 

  • Merchandising Director.  Someone to help:
    1. Develop the most effective ways to market and distribute our products
    2. Explore how to raise funds for developing products
    3. Work with the Volunteer Team to develop a Merchandising Team
    4. Research and prioritize product development
    5. Respond to "out-of-the-box" requests
  • People to do product research and development.  This involves:

  •     *brainstorming new product ideas 
        *researching resources and coordinating acquisition of products 
        *establishment of pricing schedules 
        *development of distribution channels 
    Work can be done from home/must attend bi-monthly meeting.  Ongoing basis: 1- 3 hours a week. 
     
  • PR genius (or budding genius!) to write and coordinate announcements, newsletter, etc. for Web site, e-mail and Agape online newsletter; also e-mail and media outreach
  • People to work on a public relations team to develop relationships with print journalists, local media and radio to promote the Center and help to get media coverage of events and activities.  Also to set up PSAs, etc.  Must attend bi-monthly meeting.  Ongoing basis/time varies as needed/work from home. 

  •   
  • Someone to do general clerical for marketing department.  Involves: 

  •     *monthly financial report for sales of merchandise  
        *maintenance of all resource and distribution contact lists 
        *marketing department roster  
        *notes from bi-monthly meetings. 
    Must attend bi-monthly meeting.  Ongoing/1 - 2 hours a week/work from home. 
      
  • Someone to do inventory every 1 - 2 weeks.  Involves: 

  •     *counting all merchandise on hand 
        *generating monthly report 
        *submit request for re-ordering of supplies and follow up 
        *enter new merchandise into inventory  
    1 hour a week.  Must attend bi-monthly meeting  
      
  • Someone to work the Center's table on Sundays and at events selling merchandise.  Involves: 

  •     *accounting for what is sold and cash received.  
        *help to determine demand in relationship to pricing.  
    Must attend bi-monthly meeting. 2 - 4 hours on Sunday/time varies for events.
